THE GIST

TiviMate is made for the boxes under the telly (Google TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire) and looks like a satellite guide. On its own it is empty until you add your BritCast TV log-in. Live channels work without paying; the paid Premium upgrade from its developer adds favourites, catch-up, recording and extra playlists.

  • Made for TV boxes; on phones, use Smarters.
  • Premium is sold by TiviMate's developer, not by us.
  • A larger playback buffer smooths out busy evenings.

1. Install it

Google TV and Android TV: Google Play. Fire sticks: the Downloader route in the Fire stick guide.

2. Add the playlist

Add playlist, Xtream Codes, the three details, Next.

3. Trim the groups

Untick groups you will never open; shorter lists load faster.

4. Check the guide

With Xtream Codes, TiviMate finds the listings itself. Set Settings, EPG, update interval to 12 hours.

Four settings worth changing

  • Playback, buffer size: Large for busy evenings.
  • Playback, video decoder: Hardware to spare small sticks.
  • Appearance, channel logos: on for a friendlier grid.
  • Remote buttons: make the up and down keys flick channels rather than scroll the grid, if that suits you.

With Premium

Hold the centre button on a channel to add it to Favourites. Channels with catch-up show a clock; press left in the guide to step back in time.
