THE GIST

A MAG box never asks for a password. Instead we tie your rental to its MAC address (on the sticker below the box) and you type a portal address into its settings. One restart later the channels appear, and the remote works like a set-top box from the Freeview days.

  • Send us the MAC exactly; it always begins 00:1A:79.
  • The portal goes in System settings, Servers, Portals.
  • Easy to live with, if sluggish next to today’s sticks.

1. Send us the MAC

Read it off the label or Settings, System information. A photo avoids typos.

2. Open the portal settings

Settings, System settings, Servers, Portals.

3. Enter the portal

Name Portal 1 “BritCast” and type the portal address we send, including http:// and the closing slash.

4. Restart

Pick Restart portal (or pull the plug for ten seconds); the line-up loads as it starts back up.

People also ask

How do I read the MAC?
Turn the box over for the sticker, or open System information in Settings; it always opens with 00:1A:79.
The screen says STB blocked, or no portal found.
Either we have not linked the MAC yet or the portal has a typing slip. Check both, reboot, and message us if it carries on.
