THE GIST
On a computer, start with VLC: free, open source and happy to open our M3U link straight away. Prefer a channel grid? Install the Smarters desktop player and sign in with Xtream Codes. Windows and Macs both work, and one HDMI lead puts it on the television.
- For VLC the playlist address is enough.
- Smarters on the desktop brings the grid and catch-up.
- Fetch software from the maker’s own site, nowhere else.
1. Install VLC
From videolan.org only.
2. Open the playlist
On a PC the option lives under Media as Open Network Stream; on a Mac it is File, Open Network. Paste our link, then Play.
3. Browse
Ctrl+L brings up the playlist on Windows (the playlist button on a Mac); the search box filters channel names.
4. Fancy a grid?
Get the Smarters desktop player from its developer and choose the Xtream Codes sign-in. More VLC tips are in the VLC guide.
People also ask
Will Chrome or Safari play it?
Not on their own; the stream formats need a proper media player such as VLC.
macOS will not let VLC open.
Right-click VLC in Applications, choose Open and confirm. It only asks the first time.
